The aim of this badge is to provide primary care of a patient
Junior Candidates
Serve a cold drink to someone who is able to sit up in a chair (i.e. wash hands, place a table near the patient, get a tray and place the drink on it, serve drink, then clear all away)
Candidates
Make a patient who is able to sit up comfortable: i.e. serve a cold drink, place blanket round knees, get slippers and help put them on. Place magazines, glasses, pen and paper etc within easy reach of the patient
Junior Members
7-9 years to complete Nos. 1-4 only
9-11 years complete all
- Know the normal temperature of the body
- Know how to pour a dose of medicine
- Know how to look after the hair
- Know how to look after one’s own personal hygiene
- Make a bed using hospital corners
- Learn the care of the mouth

11-13 years to complete 1-4
13-15 years complete all
- Know the normal temperature of the body
- Know how to pour a dose of medicine
- Know how to look after the hair
- Know how to look after one’s own personal hygiene
- Make a bed using hospital corners
- Learn the care of the mouth
- Know the normal pulse rate for children and adults
- Know the normal rate of respiration per minute
- Know the normal temperature and be able to use and read a thermometer
- Make a bed with a patient in it
- Learn the daily routine care of a patient
