Easter Greetings from Central President Myra Moody
Dear GFS Members,
“What we start with hope, will blossom and expand with love”
Easter is often seen as a time of new beginnings and fresh starts. New life is appearing in the countryside with the bleating of baby lambs after a wet and dark Winter. As I travel around visiting various GFS branches at this time of year, I see the quiet energy of Spring emerging in the way you support one another organising Diocesan services, residential camps and various celebratory events, following this year’s theme “Building Blocks of Hope – Every Little Helps”. Easter is a journey of hope and renewal. As you take a break now, may this Easter be a time of peace and reflection for you and your families, whether you are attending Easter services, spending time in Nature or sharing a meal with loved ones. If you have a spare few minutes, why not try this task:
Activity for Easter – Plant a “Seed of Hope”
Materials required:
- A wildflower or Sunflower seed
- A small pot of compost
- Water
- A little bit of patience
Hold the seed: Before planting, hold the seed in your palm. Think of something you’ve been worried about or a “shadow” in your life that you would like to leave behind after the Winter months.
Plant in trust: As you press the seed into the dark soil, imagine letting go of that worry, mistake or hurt. Easter reminds us that life can start in the dark unseen places.
Water with care: As you water your seed daily, offer a quiet prayer. Just as the seed needs water and sun, we need grace and community to grow.
Watch for the light: Place your pot in a sunny spot. Every time you see a sprout break through the soil, let it be a reminder that hope is a living thing.
“Let us give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from the dead. This fills us with living hope.” Peter 1:3
I hope you all feel the warmth of God’s love and the joy of new beginnings this Easter and don’t over indulge on chocolate!
